An American (English) remake of the French series HPI (2021)
Tale
Follows Morgan, a single mother of three, and how her exceptional mind allows her to help solve a crime by presenting evidence during her shift as a janitor in the police department. Despite having a very high IQ, excellent memory, and extensive knowledge of mysteries, Morgan makes a number of basic legal mistakes that anyone who has ever watched a TV law show would know not to make.
In episode one, for example, she obtains a document from a locked safe in a suspect/victim’s law office that would never be admissible in court—evidence obtained illegally
It also cannot be used to obtain other evidence—a violation of the legal doctrine of “fruit of the poisonous tree.” In episode 2, she has to be reminded to put on gloves before touching evidence at a crime scene, and in episode 3, she takes all of the documented evidence from the police station, completely breaking the chain of custody and rendering everything she took inadmissible in court. HPI Remake (2021).
As with most shows, it starts off a little shaky
First of all, it’s not a clone of “Bones” or other crime shows that deal with the issue of people with marketable skills when it comes to police work. The girl is good, although of course her manic behavior can’t last as long as it did in the first episode.
The cops aren’t going to hire someone who’s so worn out
Unlike the portrayals of lab techs and the like on other shows that show them as “off their meds.” Secondly, the actor playing Detective Karadec (Daniel Sunjata) is excellent, he was very good in “Manifest.” As shows like this get smoother and the characters are fleshed out, they get better and the flow starts working. As for the talented Morgan, it’s hard to believe someone with her skills hasn’t been snapped up by a tech or financial company, but I suppose there are people who, despite their talent, couldn’t make it in the real world.
