But if you’re going to create a work of art, you have to do more than just record it. There were no layers, just boring memories. What about holding these institutions accountable for this oppression? Think about who or what might be responsible? What about the role of the church? What about the role of the family? What about the economic/political context? These are issues that have been addressed many times in films, novels, documentaries. What we need now are insights, not just memories.
